Why was my letter rejected and what happens to it now?

We're sorry your letter was rejected. Typically when a letter is rejected by the facility they will return the mail to sender. Here are some possible reasons why they rejected it:

• You did not put in the proper mailing address for the facility. Please reconfirm these details. You can see the facility's mailing address on their website.
• You put in the wrong inmate ID or name.  
• Your letter violated the facility's mailing policy. Some facilities do not accept certain types of mail, such as postcards. They also may have deemed your letter "inappropriate." For more information on their mailing policy, please refer to their website or contact them directly. 

Was your letter returned but your contact said they received it? 

Some facilities are now distributing copied versions of letters they receive in order to prevent contraband from being smuggled in. These facilities sometimes send the original letter back to the sender.
